07 - Tony's 2025 Challenge
08 - Jackie's Quiz
Our first quiz for all.
On 2nd October 2025, Jackie, Russell's wife and supporter, created and conducted a quiz for the group. The group was split in teams of 4, creating 6 teams. There were smiling faces and chatter all-round as Jackie put us through our paces.
Well done Jackie, it was our first quiz and you organised it and us, well. When is the next one? The winners by the way, were:
The Regattas...Simon, Jaqueline, Tina and Kevin. Well done to them also.
07 - Tony's 2025 Challenge
Lone 200 miles e-bike ride - Over 2 Days
Tony, founder and current chairperson of the group since 2022 has found recovery strength in a number of new interests since his stroke took away his driving licence and weakened his legs. One of these is a new found interest in cycling. In particular, e-cycling.
For the un-informed, e-bikes are not electrically motor powered; but they do assist. However, if you don't pedal...they don't assist.
On 1st and 3rd of September, Tony completed this Lone e-bike Challenge of 200 miles in two days, RAISING IN EXCESS OF £2100.00, but not before completing 800 training miles.
801.05 miles now competed as at 30 August, so yes, the 200 miles in 2 days challenge was very much on. 1st and 3rd September, 0500 -1900 approx. or longer. Yes, we will be asking for Sponsorship which raised in excess of £2100. With all raised funds going towards our group funds and a percentage to the UK Stroke Association and SSAFA.

The Event 1 & 3 Sept
COMPLETED.
04 - Barbara's Indoor Bowls
As part of 2025 Activities, Barbara H, our Indoor Bowls expert and group member, went ahead and organised an Indoor Bowls Taster session at Horncastle Indoor Bowls.
As you can see, it went down extremely well with everyone, of all abilities.
A great morning's activity, Barbara, thank you from everyone.
02 - Russell's Allotment
We are proud of our Allotment Winner
Russell has twice won the Horncastle Town, Best Allotment, awarded by the local town council, since his time on the Allotment back in 2012. Following his severe stroke 5 years or so ago, his passion has only increased, which he will agree has been his secret weapon aiding his recovery, together of course with the dedicated support from his lovely wife Jackie. Well done to these two stalwart members of the our Stroke Survivors group.
He is growing allsorts of Fruits, Vegetables and Flowers - Long may you continue Russell, to Dig for recovery!

03 - Andrews Skipping Challenge Feb. 2025
So very well done Andrew
SKIP FOR STROKE
I discovered it in January this year through a newsletter, Skip for Stroke. I became interested in it straight away. It was a good way to start the year, so I applied and got my
Skipping Rope within a week.
A week later, I got paperwork that guides me through the process and a sheet of paper where I marked the days I was doing it
1st of February to the 28th of February 2025) and I had marked down every day for a month that I had skipped for fifteen minutes a day.
The event was for the whole of England, Wales and Scotland and was for Carers of Stroke victims, people who had known a victim of a Stroke themselves, and for the victims of a Stroke themselves. I started a Stroke page on the internet (GoFundMe).
I started slowly, first one step out, then the other leg and then the skip. I repeated the process for fifteen minutes every day. At first, I went round in circles, but then cut my circles down. As I got better and better at skipping I had cut the circles out by the end week. I still though did alternative legs and then a skip for the duration of the event.
I went out in sunshine, in rain, and in wind, and sometimes it was very cold. I did seven hours (fifteen
minutes a day) throughout the event, which I was pleased with. At the end, I was relieved to have finished it, and I let out a cry of relief when I did so.
I raised £500.00, which was paid into the Stroke Association. I also received a medal on the
20th March, but I didn’t do it for the medal, I did it to help new Stroke victims and old stroke victims to find a pathway forward.

SSLN9 Note. If you are reading this from outside our group's membership, then you can not know the superhuman effort this has taken Andrew to complete. Congratulations Andrew, is really not doing justice to Andrew's efforts. Extremely well done, our very good friend, a goliath of a man.
01 - Christine & Bobbie

Our first sponsored achiever.
Our Christine, a founder member back in November 2022.
During the month of May 2024, Christine, a founder member of our group, successfully participated in the Stroke Association's May 2024 challenge, which involved walking 31 minutes of exercise every day in May.
Not only did she achieve it, she did so by adding 31 minutes to her already busy dog-walking day with Bobbie, her pet dog. Great job, both of you.
So much so, Christine and Bobbie proudly raised £230 of sponsorship for the Stroke Association. Well done, Christine and Bobbie.
