Stroke Survivors LN9 (SSLN9)
DAY 2 - An Explanation & Trial.
Welcome to our explanation page for our proposed 2nd "Monthly Gathering" day. To give time towards more social interaction for Stroke Survivors and their Partners.
Stroke Survivors LN9 (SSLN9)

Over the past 3 years our 1st Thursday of the month Gatherings, follows an Agenda of Welcome, 10 min gentle chair sitting exercise, Guest Speaker, Comfort/Canteen break, Q&A, Activity Discussions and Organising, plus “Focus on Stroke” discussions (Own & Others), experiences.
We still do this and will continue to do so. However, there is only so much we can achieve in 2.5 hours, especially when the canteen break overruns! (no names). So a Trial idea of an additional monthly Thursday is in its embryonic stages.
My Question to AI (Artificial Intelligence)
I put the following question to AI regarding some self-help, outside of formal medical stroke recovery programmes
Is playing table top type games, such as cards, chess, Draughts, Monopoly, Snakes and Ladders, Jigsaws etc, a worthwhile activity to aide stroke survivivors recovery?
The positive response is to long for this page. So I have given it, it's own page. CLICK HERE to read
Below however, is my suggestions from that AI Response.

SOCIAL & MENTAL PRACTICE STIMULATION (SMPS)
Ok, I know! I need to come up with a different Title!
So what is SMPS? You need to go back to Nov. 2022, when our non-medical, local Stroke Survivors group (SSLN9) was set up. It started with 12 Stroke Survivors, including Partners if required, and now with 35 members on our books. To be fair, around 15 to 24 attend once a month, regularly, while others attend as and when they feel able, which is always fine.
We have all been affected differently by our Stroke or Strokes, and that includes Partners. However, two issues tend to be common:
Socialising and Anxiety
SOCIAL & MENTAL PRACTICE STIMULATION (SMPS)
In our 1st Thursday, we tend to loosely follow a formal-ish Agenda, which gives time to organise future events for those in the group to get involved with, if they wish, or listen to our varied Guest Speakers. What it doesn't give us is time to individually, socially engage with each other in a productive way.....hence SMPS....

Socially, many Stroke Survivors need to attempt Mental challenges themselves, by doing (safety) chair-based Practice, Stimulation, (SMPS) of the brain & muscles etc, activities. (Games, Quizes, Projects, Chats and so on)

If you are a Stroke Survivor and/or Partner, SSLN9 or not, come and get involved with like-minded people. Nothing is formal. Come and go as you please, utilise the canteen anytime between 1030 and 1130, or just anytime if you make your own Tea/Coffee.

Please don't come if after 1045 as events will be under way or we may of closed if low numbers attend during this trial.
